This Foreign Soil

Laily Quite a departure from a lot of the other stuff I've heard from Robert Sunday but great nonetheless. Melancholy & nostalgic with melodies that linger on well after you've finished listening.

1.
Paris/Smoke 04:12
I must leave this town Everywhere I see his face Paris waits for me He said he would join me there I just wish that he was here Light a cigarette When you smoke it's hard to cry We were lovers then Now forever there's a hole There's a breach in space and time
2.
Down to the Drum Club Smoking our last cigarettes Singing Amsterdam Brel would surely have approved Will we be this close no more? Come the final day Take your silent brother there Where the bus heads south Back to all you've left behind You're not angry-you're alone
3.
Lovers fierce and proud Those who dug their nails in deep Now mothers and wives On some ordinary day Do they stop and think of you All those lonely girls Falling weeping to their knees Lost in threadbare rooms Knowing that with him they lived Knowing that the light has gone
4.
Gone to Roker bay Trying hard to find the words I always fall short You're ashamed of who I am How could I compete with you? All those boys in bloom Sat around in disbelief Travel many miles Walking on this foreign soil Sobbing underneath the stairs
5.
I've been here before On a lonely Wednesday morn At the kitchen door Watching schoolgirls cross the field Thinking of another's arms Everyone you knew Gravitates towards me now Look for you in me I'm a poor facsimile We have different kinds of light

about

This is a collection of tankas manipulated into song, about my late brother Séan,culled from ancient letters, ragged memories, imagined lives, and lost futures. It was written and recorded between 2015-2019.

(Tanka is a classic form of Japanese poetry related to the haiku with five unrhymed lines of five, seven, five, seven, and seven syllables.)

Hopefully there will be a physical edition once this virus bullshit is over.If you buy the download (and if you're willing) I will send you a physical copy at no extra charge, should I get around to actually doing that.
